Fit For Battle

John 2:1-10 – “And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come. His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith onto you, do it. And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. Jesus saith unto them, fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. And He saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast, And the bare it. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom. And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

When Jesus said “My hour has not yet come” He was referring to people being born again. This is the latter, the new wine that has kept until now. The bible tells us that “The latter will be greater that the former” (Hag 2:9). Being born again is to receive new wine-skins for the wine to be poured into. The new wine is the Holy Spirit being poured out. This is your greatest weapon to be fit for battle. The time is now to receive, step out, and “taste and see that the Lord is good”(Ps 34:8)

.

Matthew 20:16 – “So the last shall be first, and the first, last: for many be called but few chosen.”

Israel was God’s first choice and now we (the gentiles) are first. “Chosen” here means: To be picked out for special service or special privileges. We are called to experience the new wine.

I Peter 2:9-10 – “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

God has now chosen us to go into the darkness and wage war with the enemy. He is going to use us with his new wine as the ultimate weapon against death, sickness, unforgiveness, bondages, etc. There is no end to what can be done in His spirit.

I Samuel 17:26,37-47 – And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying: What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? … David said moreover, the Lord that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the Lord be with thee. And Saul armed David with his armor, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armor, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him. And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherds bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine. And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him. And when the Philistine looked about, he saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, Come to me and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beast of the field. Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day into the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hands.

Goliath was 9ft 9in tall, he was the champion for the Philistines. He told the servants of Saul “choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me” (I Sam 17:8). And David said, Who should defy the armies of the living God? (v.26) We are like Saul was with David, trying to fit him with armor for battle. We don’t need anything except His Spirit. Through His Spirit we will see the weapons of faith that we possess. David knew these weapons. God does not fight with swords or spears, He fights by His Spirit.

Zechariah 4:6 – Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

His indwelling spirit makes us fit for any battle that wages war in our souls. “It’s by My Spirit, says the Lord”

Romans 8:37 – Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

The word “conquerors” speaks of one who is victorious, one who wins their battles. A mighty warrior (this is God and His Spirit)

II Timothy 2:3-4 – Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

As a soldier we cannot be distracted by the things in this world. We need to keep our focus on the prize, which is souls and finishing our race. What are you fighting for? Is it worldly or is it heavenly? What are you fighting with? Your tongue, your mind, your pride? Or are you using the weapons that God has showed you? In the next few weeks you’re going to see some other weapons that you already possess. You are already fir for battle.

John 12:27 – Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I into this hour.

Jesus knew why he had come and the task that he had to finish. Do we know when trouble is all around us what is happening? Do we ask ourselves, What can I learn from this? Who am I fighting? (We don’t want to fight against God.) Or, what is Satan after? Can you not see in these battles that your life is a threat to Satan’s territory? We need to learn from Jesus “for this cause…”

I Chronicles 12:8 – Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

God has those in His army just like David’s , that are fit for battle. They’re armed with His anointing, His presence, and His love. They are watchmen and warriors in prayer. Today God is raising up an army fit for battle, with His new wine, ready to fight.

Isaiah 9:5-7 – For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

The new wine makes us fit for battle. There is fire shut up in our bones ready to come out. (Jer. 20:9) Things are different now. His Spirit is the weapon we take into battle. Some of us play it safe and we never venture out of our comfort zone. We really don’t understand the power of the new wine.

Luke 4:18 – The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Luke 9:1-2 – Them he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

Jesus came to do damage to the works of darkness. We are called and anointed to go out and serve the new wine. He passed his work onto us through the ages. But the later rain is greater than the former. (Hag 2:9)

I Corinthians 2:4-5 – And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Paul didn’t speak with confidence like he used to. He spoke with fear. But he had the power of God speaking through him and he had the demonstration of God’s spirit working miracles. You are ready and fit for battle to go out and invade the devil’s territory. That is where the signs and wonders are, outside. We need the New Wine.
